Basin Sweeping

Cooling towers provide waste heat rejection by transferring heat from cooling water to atmosphere via evaporation. As a result, whatever is in the surrounding air ends up in the fill, cooling tower basin, and cooling water.

Traditional methods of keeping cooling water free of debris rely on side stream filtration systems installed in mechanical rooms. These systems take a percentage of flow (generally 10-25%) from the main chilled water line, filtering the water, and then returning it back to the main line.

A Basin Sweeping System relocates the traditional side stream filtration system from the main line, and instead attaches it directly to the cooling tower basin. This increases the overall percentage of side stream filtration to more than 20%. Also, it targets where the debris problem usually starts – in the cooling tower.

Basin Sweeping systems have an additional advantage by recirculating the filtered water through a network of pipes and nozzles called HydroBoosters^TM. The HydroBoosters^TM help agitate and direct settled and suspended debris in the basin away from the condenser water pump and towards the filtration system.
